Locked Blogs. . . . . .

Ok . . .So I have been asked "Why do I say locked blogs are not safe?" So instead of writing everyone back I decided to post it on all of my blogs. . . . . . .

What I mean when I say you are not safe when you lock up is you don't block anyone out. . . .just ones that don't know much about computers. . . . .you aren't blocking the bad guys out. . . . . . .and you really don't know if they are on your computer checking you out cuz they log on with your password and use your username. There is no trace of them being on. If you want to know how to do this do a little research for yourself and google it.

I really don't care if you block me or not. . . . .it doesn't bother me at all. . . . . .what really gets me. . . .it just how much people do put on their blogs about there families. . . and so many pics of their HOUSE!!!!!! What are you trying to do. . . .map it out for someone???? There is nothing like shaking your tail in front of the devil and telling him to play tag with you!!!! Come on use a little common sense!!!!!! GET EDUCATATED!!!!!

Don't believe me???? it can be done cuz it has been. . . . .the internet is a wonderful thing. . . .but also can be a deadly thing as well. . . . . . .Please be carefully what you put on your blogs. . .and how much info you put out there. . .. . .remember you can always email the pics you don't what put on. I WOULD RATHER BE SAFE THAN SORRY!!!!!!!

My husband and I were just commenting last evening how unfortunate it is that more parents do not choose to educate themselves. Yet when something "bad" happens, they cry and ask for prayer and say "Oh, it must be God's will". God gave each of us a brain and He made us responsible to care for His children to the best of our ability. I am pretty sure that includes self education.

Thanks for the warning Beth!

It's good to be cautious, but don't let the paranoia run wild either. Life's too short for that.

I wonder if the parents of the 14 year old on my space, with a blocked account told the police officer (who came to their door-after having posed as a 14 year old on my space and obtaining all of their daughters personal information and following her home) Oh thank you for your concern officer and thank God it was you and not someone who meant ill will, BUT we do not want to be paranoid - life is too short for that. SINCE WHEN HAS COMMON SENSE EVER BEEN SYNONOMOUS WITH PARANOIA!?

By the way, listing a child's school as well as your home church on your blog leave no question as to where you live and spend your time.

I've been a computer professional for 20+ years and actually created one of the very 1st intelligent websites in the world. In my experience, the folks who are NOT knowledgeable in computer security are the ones who are too trusting of the internet phenomenon. They don't understand that any convicted multiple child sex offender or rapist with less than $100, can go out and create a MySpace-type webservice or a blog service or an online dating service with absolutely NO government restrictions or checks and do it all in less than a day, and then have trusting people giving away their personal information into it for free. Not to mention that it is a known fact in the computer & criminal justice world that predators do cruise these websites for victims(some of them from prison computers). It's a free country so do what you want. But the fact is that if you put your personal information on blog, locked or not, it has been viewed by a convicted or unconvicted criminal. Now that person may or may not think your family is attractive enough or your kids worth the effort to snatch. But as a parent myself, I don't see where I have a God-given right to risk the lives of my...HIS... children. But it is a free country...

Angie Davis I have been reading these past couple of entries, and I would like to thank you for your love of God, life and family! Your blog is one of the funniest and well thought out blogs I have read. It is nice to read and see pictures of a family that truly is following God's will for their lives, and who trust Him completely. Thank you and with much appreciation.

I agree with Angie Davis, that we should be careful and not careless, but at the same time, we can't be paranoid all the time, God knows what good or bad, will befall any of us, no matter how hard we try to protect our families, God will allow or will not allow circumstances to come our way according to what His perfect will is for our lives!!

I'm thinking I should write something like this more often!!! :) I'm a little disappointed that most of you think I wrote about being paranoid!! I'm not paranoid!!!! BUT just because I'm a Christian doens't mean I can hang everything out there for every body to see and then expect God to protect me. God doesn't just protect Christians. . . .even they get hurt also. . . I wish I could post things about my family. . .pics of my house and the grass I MOW!!!! I have talked to some people in our community that have seen what posting too much can do. . . .Like I told someone this morning. . .the internet can be a wonderful thing. .you can meet new people . . .find old friends. . .BUT if not careful can be a deadly thing as well...

When Tom heard the emergency advisory on TV warning of the coming flood, he shrugged it off. "I'm staying put--God will provide!"
When the cop cars drove through the neighborhood urging evacuation over loudspeakers, he thought, "Yep, God'll provide," and stayed put.
When the water was two feet high, the National Guard ordered Tom out but he wouldn't budge. Water covered everything Tom could see including the first floor of his home. He leaned out of a second story window and waved off the rescue boat. He felt safe; "God would provide".
He ignored the helicopter as he clung to the chimney. The house floated down-river yet Tom shouted into the wind, "Go away; I trust in God's Providence!"
After drowning, Tom stood before the Lord bitter and angry. God let him die despite trusting in Him and demanded an explanation.
God replied, "Tom, I did help you. I spoke to you through the announcer and police. Who do you think sent the warnings, the truck, boat and helicopter?"

It's not a matter of "not trusting God". Instead of being a victim, it is choosing to take an active part in your safety and survival. It is digesting information we have available and making the best possible choices. It is doing the best we can with what we have. It is not waiting for our governments to bail us out of the next disaster or reveling in the pity of others due to the ill consequences of our unwise choices. It means taking personal responsibility. It IS daring to be wise and daring to prepare!"

Please don't be swayed by well-meaning folks who say it is OK to do nothing or to not use wisdom. This is the time, with God's help, that we are to do what we can to help others and ourselves by sharing information etc, and not be chair-warmers. In fact, scripture specifically addresses pesonal responsibility. For example: But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 1 Tim othy 5:8 (KJV).

Technology does not render Godly wisdom obsolete.

OK,follow this scenario..... I have to go to work tommorrow and set up my scaffold. I will need to climb this scaffold and walk back and forth at the top.... Now... I am a Christian and I do not believe that God wants me to get hurt and I believe that He will protect me in all situations. I need to get a lot done tommorrow and so going on the assumption that God will protect me, I think I will set up real fast.... who cares if only three legs touch the ground or if the planks aren't level. I'm sure I'll be fine.... absurd isn't it? God has promised to take care of me, along with that He has given me the ability to take care of myself to some degree. I know how to set up scaffold properly so I have the responsibilty to do so!!
This whole subject of locked blogs was supposed to be informational. Simply a warning to be careful how much info you give out! God gave us these precious children and it is our job as parents to protect them with the knowledge we have!!! When you gain knowledge you have the responsibility to use it. Yes I agree that God knows what good or bad will befall us but part of His protecting us is our ability to learn and gain knowledge which in turn can keep us out of trouble. Trusting God completely is not sticking your head in the sand.
